Lloyd J. Jassin provides counseling to book publishing, television, theater, new media, arts and entertainment clients on contract, licensing, copyright, trademark, unfair competition, libel, right of privacy and general corporate law matters. His practice includes drafting and negotiating publishing and entertainment industry contracts, intellectual property due diligence, trademark prosecution, dispute resolution and litigation. His expertise in intellectual property and organizing business entities, has enabled him to represent clients throughout their growth cycle. Besides individual and corporate clients, he also represents trade and industry groups such as the Audio Publishers Association (APA) and Publishers Marketing Association (PMA). Mr. Jassin has achieved national prominence with his book, The Copyright Permission and Libel Handbook (John Wiley & Sons), coauthored with Steven C. Schechter.

Before forming his own firm, Mr. Jassin was associated with Cowan, Liebowitz & Latman, a nationally prominent intellectual property firm where he worked with clients engaged in the publishing, television, music, fashion and character licensing industries. Prior to that, he was an attorney in the law department of Viacom Enterprises, a division of Viacom International, the world's largest independent distributor of feature films and off-network television programming. At Viacom he was involved in domestic and foreign distribution of programs such as The Cosby Show, The Honeymooners, The Andy Griffith Show, The Twilight Zone, and Terrytoons animation library. At Viacom, he was actively involved in entertainment and character licensing.

Prior to law school, Mr. Jassin was the Director of Publicity of the Simon & Schuster Reference Group and Prentice Hall Press. The group included trade, software and professional publishing companies. Because of his publishing and broadcast background, he is intimately familiar with his clients' industries, enabling him to counsel clients on business as well as legal issues.

Admitted in New York and New Jersey, he practices before both state and federal courts. Mr. Jassin earned his J.D. from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law. He is the author of numerous articles on negotiating and drafting contracts in the publishing and entertainment industries. Listed in Who's Who in the Media and Communications, his work has appeared in publications such as Independent Publisher Magazine, The Authors Guild Bulletin, Creative Screenwriting and Multimedia Producer. He has lectured at Seton Hall University School of Law, New York University, trade and professional groups throughout the United States. Mr. Jassin's pro bono activities include serving as Vice Chair of the Small Press Center, and as a Vice President of the Media Coalition. He is a member of The Authors Guild, National Writers Union, and the Entertainment Law Committee of The Association of the Bar of the City of New York.
